June 19, 2004, EAA Chapter 110 Meeting Minutes

 Lou’s Flying Feat

The meeting was called to order by John Feemster. 18 people attending.

John’s Truisms – an example: “Forget all that stuff about thrust and drag, lift and gravity; an aeroplane flies because of money.”

Oshkosh:

Mike Reynolds wants to hear from people who plan to attend the Fly-In. Contact him at reynoldsmike@esuhsd.org.

Bob Meuse recommends the “Flight of Eagles” package tour: includes round-trip air fare, lodging, special access to events, for about $1000. For an additional $450, you can return via Dayton, OH, for a tour of the Air Force Museum.

Sport Pilot: Now is back at OMB (Office of Management and Budget), tuned-up and hopefully nearly ready to fly.

Lou Janis brought his antenna tuning gear today. He’ll tune your antenna if you want.

Tech Talk:

John Feemster gave a Tech Talk about ultralight operation at the Hollister Airport. Some highlights:

1.                  Use the runways for takeoff and landing. (Not the taxiways, parking lots, or the Ding-A-Ling.)

2.                  The Ultralight pattern altitude is 500’ AGL, and 500’ offset from runway centerline.

3.                  Start your descent as you turn into the base leg. Start final turn at 200’ or higher.

4.                  Use your radio (not required by law, but important) frequency = 123.0.

5.                  On takeoff on runway 31, fly past runway 24 before turning to a new heading.

Group Aircraft:  Mike Arndt gave a report on the current state of possible group aircraft ownership. The group is looking for a single-seat Quicksilver (pure Part 103). The group is becoming real.

Hollister Hangar: The hangar currently held by Laurie Dieck is hanging by a thread. Anyone who would like to share it, contact John Gould Gould42@aol.com. The rent is $300/month, and could be shared.

Round Robin:

John Gould: He and Lou are offering their Challenger for sale.

Vaughn McIlrath: Looking for someone with a handheld radio that could be used to track members in Fly-Out activities. Could use operator and radio, or radio a la carte. Contact Vaughn at mcilrath@pobox.com.

Bill Dennison: Looking for a partner in building a two-place sport plane. George Nicholson leapt on that one like a bunny. Bill is also looking for a doctor who gives FAA medical exams. Dr. Joyce, Morgan Hill, was recommended.

Alec Chattaway: Will soon become a distributor of paraglider wings and engines.

Don Lindsay: (Don – hope I spelled your name right. –VM) New guy – welcome Don! Don was looking for an instructor – he came to the right place.!

Dave Hilpert: Dave’s T-Bird is for sale. It qualifies as an ultralight trainer, and it’s also been converted to tricycle gear.  Dave paid $9000 for it, and will entertain offers. Contact Dave at dhilpert@ix.netcom.com.

John Feemster: Should the aircraft group be interested, his MXL is available for purchase. It’s in great running condition.

Bob Meuse: Willing to contact Frank Sweeney, Mecury News reporter, about the Independence High School’s project aircraft. Go Bob!

The meeting adjourned at 11:25, and a contigent headed out to Hollister Airport, the Ding-A-Ling, and airplane time.
