EAA Squadron CX and USUA
155, Aug 16, 2003, Meeting Notes:
(Arriving
late, I missed some early action. Here’s what I’ve found happened.)
Election of officers: Next month’s meeting will be the election.
Vice President: W. F. (Deke) Dieck George Nicholson
Secretary: Rich Grialou (Vaughn McIlrath, withdrawn)*
Treasurer: John Gould __________________
After talking with
Rich, I’ve decided to keep doing the newsletter and let Rich do Secretary. –VM
Volunteer positions: Other jobs
are appointed.
Newsletter: Vaughn
McIlrath
Young Eagles: Mike
Reynolds
Chief Information Officer: Rich Grialou
Tech Talk: Deke presented technical
information about fuel pumps.
Hollister Air Fair and the October meeting: In October, we’re scheduling our meeting at Hollister
Airport, in conjunction with the Hollister Air Fair, and a week earlier than
usual, Oct. 11th. Be sure to mark your calendar.
Signage: Deke pointed out that a
the Hollister Horse Parade, where we entered the Kitfox on a trailer, there was
no identification of who we were or what the airplane was about. We need a sign
or a banner identifying us. Any ideas?
Contact Deke (w_dieck@pacbell.net).
Round Robin:
Vince Jahn has had a conversation with Tim Styles, a Rans dealer, who would like to be represented on our web site. We decided that was ok.
John Feemster has new sails
on his MXLII Sport. His airplane and knee are about ready for training.
Robert Smith’s Pietenpohl
Air Camper is ready for it’s test flight, hopefully to happen today. Good luck,
Robert!
Bob Meuse gave a rundown on
aircraft and events at Oshkosh. Many highlights: 12,000 aircraft were there;
Sport Pilot is in Maneta’s hands; the Hughes H-1 attended and then met it’s
comuppance in Yellowstone Park; HKS 4-stroke air-cooled engine; the Aerocar
from Canada; the Dehavilland Comet was flown in (the one that lives in the
Wings of History Museum!); the Sonex (Bob’s favorite item there); Bob met Jim
Bede who had his BD17 there ($30,000 aircraft, capable of 160 knots (?) from an
80-hp engine); accommodations were fantastic (“Flight of Eagles” $900 package
deal); and then Bob posted a flyer listing the cost to buy surplus aircraft at
the end of WWII. You could have bought a P-51 for $3500; a B-29 for $32,500.
Thanks, Bob for the great summary!
Dave Stader told us about
his Trike that he can keep at home in his garage!
Rusty Wells gave more
summary of Oshkosh, and of Bob’s piano adventures there!
Mike Reynolds: His aircraft-building class has been invited
to NASA-Ames Aerospace Day. He plans to FLY the project into the event!
One of his students won a scholarship to an Oshkosh
event. While there, she was an escort of Bob Hoover at a ball,(where Mr. Hoover
undoubtedly presented her with his engine-out approach). She has a presentation
package of a project she has done, and will be invited to present it to us at the September meeting! Thanks
Mike!!
Lou Janis: The EAA will soon discontinue publication of
Experimenter Magazine, and initiate Sport Pilot Magazine in it’s place.
Getting airport traffic patterns published: There was further discussion about the traffic pattern (patterns)
that needs to be established at Hollister. John Feemster has worked with South
County airport to set up a traffic pattern, agreeable to the airport management.
It needs to be published. Hollister’s needs to be worked-out and published.
(If there’s anything I
missed here, please accept my apology – VM)
